My mom has always been all about stories. When I was little, she read and read to me: Winnie the Pooh,Ramona the Pest, the Book House books (which, heartbreakingly, were lost in a move.) She was, and is a teacher, and she made sure I became a reader.
But there was another gift she gave: she showed me that stories come from ordinary people–and that it is our birthright to create them.
Many of you have asked me about writing workshops for adults. Unfortunately I have less and less time to teach, due to current writing commitments. (Did I mention I have an agent? I have an agent! Just in case you missed that…) So what did I do? I enlisted five friends, who ALSO have pressing creative deadlines,

What a delightful time we had yesterday at our Valentine Party for New Day Africa, making valentines for the children of the Green Door Orphanage in Songea, Tanzania. These are kids who have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS.
