Poetry is vocal, which is to say, a bodily art…In poetry, the medium is the audience’s body. –Robert Pinsky, The Sounds of Poetry
A great plot and memorable characters are essential to any kind of narrative. But it’s for the words that we fall into the story. It’s the words that electrify us, sing to us, and ride us to the end. When we take the time to play with the language of poetry, our narrative writing changes. In this workshop, we’ll explore the pleasure of sounds in poems, then experiment with bringing some of that music into our stories.
